Priceline's vacation rules

• As with most vacation companies, once you give your credit card number, your trip becomes completely nonrefundable. (Priceline does offer cancellation insurance for specific situations.)
  
  
• You cannot make changes. No exceptions.
  
  
• Using Priceline, you get awesome deals on deluxe and luxury hotels and resorts, BUT these may have extra charges that are higher than you are used to paying. You can avoid some charges, such as telephone tolls and room service, by not using these services. But you may have to pay others, such as "resort amenities" and parking fees.
  
  
• You probably won't receive frequent flyer credit.

Tips for getting the best discounts on your vacation

• Include a Saturday night stay. (However, this is seldom needed for Las Vegas and Orlando.)
  
  
• Avoid traveling on Friday and especially Sunday (unless you are taking advantage of one of Priceline's last-minute "Weekender" specials).
  
  
• Travel midweek if possible.
  
  
• Book at least 3 days in advance.
  
  
• Depart, if possible, from a "competitive" airport -- an airport not dominated by just one non-budget airline.
  
  
• Avoid peak times at popular destinations, such as the weeks around Easter and Passover in Florida.

2. Decide on your destination and your first choice hotel or resort.

For maximum savings, be open to alternatives based on price. "I want to go to a nice coastal resort in Mexico" works better than "I want to go to Puerto Vallarta."

3. Consider alternative dates and departure airports, which may be considerably cheaper.

NOTE: After you pay Priceline.com (Vacations), write down your transaction number. Once confirmed, print out your itinerary and receipt and take these with you on your trip.

If you have any special requests -- window or aisle seats, special meals, bed types, etc.—call your airline and hotel as soon as possible.
