When done exploring Point Reyes National Seashore, return to Hwy 1.

Turn right, and head northbound on Hwy 1 to Point Reyes Station.

Just north of the Point Reyes Station village center, turn right onto Point Reyes-Petaluma Road.

There are other fast routes back into the city, but this page gives you the most rural and pleasant one.

When you reach a large lake, turn right onto Nicasio Valley Road.

Soon, turn left onto Lucas Valley Road.

Lucas Valley Road takes you pass some nice farms and ranches in the coastal range. You can smell the California laurel and eucalyptus.

Marin County is simply amazing. In spite of (or perhaps because of) its close proximity to San Francisco—and in spite of already having a huge amount of its land devoted to national, state, and county parks—Marin sets aside extensive additional land for greenbelts and farms.

This helps keep the county so scenic. It also helps keep home values here among the highest in the U.S.

The countryside becomes more built up as you approach the U.S. 101 freeway.

Take U.S. 101 southbound toward San Francisco.

Be sure to have $5 for the Golden Gate Bridge toll.

We hope you’ve had an awesome scenic drive!

If you have time to stop at the Frank Lloyd Wright Marin County Civic Center or Sausalito on your return, please see Part IV. These are just off Hwy 101.
