Arthur Frommer’s ranked Momondo as the best airfare search site of 2017. It had excellent reasons for doing so.
Per Frommer’s, Momondo “remains, hands-down, the best place to find the cheapest airfares . . . We used a complicated, weighted scoring system (including negative points for finding the worst fares).”
Momondo checks nearly double the number of airfare sellers—some 750 airlines and third-party search engines—as Kayak does.
You buy your ticket directly from the airline or search engine with the lowest fare.
Note that Momondo and other airfare search engines cannot find prices for Priceline’s Express Deals and Name Your Own Price ones. These are not published online.
If a nonrefundable fare that you cannot change works for you in order to save, also consider Priceline.
Because Momondo searches so many airfare sources—some 750 as mentioned--Frommer’s suggests checking reputations of smaller ones that are unfamiliar before buying. You may wish to pay a little more.
As with any airfare search engine, consider airline reputation, e.g.,
Some airlines such as Spirit charge for even carry-on luggage. Even with fees though these airlines may cost less. Nevertheless, make sure that you know such things as luggage size and weight limitations, which may be far less generous than normal.
Enjoy your Momondo savings!
