Hotwire Rental Car Driving Record Requirements

You may be wondering how good a driving record you need to rent a Hotwire discount rental car. How many tickets you can have, etc.

The companies Hotwire uses for its lowest rental car rates—Avis, Budget, and Hertz—want you to have a reasonably good driving record, but it doesn't have to be perfect.

Fundamental driving record requirements

You must have a valid license that is not currently suspended, expired, revoked, cancelled or surrendered. You must never have been in possession of a stolen vehicle or used a vehicle in a crime. Other driver requirements may change, but these will not.

You must be 25 or older to book a Hotwire.com Discount Rate. You must be 21 or older to book a Hotwire regular rate.

During the last 36 months

• During the last 36 months, the driver has not

  • had one or more convictions for speeding or reckless driving.
    
    
  • had one or more convictions for driving under the influence (DUI), driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving while alcohol impaired (DWAI).
    
    
  • failed to report or left the scene of an accident.
    

During the last 24 months

• During the last 24 months, the driver has not

  • had three or more convictions for moving violations (excluding seat belt violations) but including speeding.
