Mexico Travel Advisory
By Don Nadeau, on March 12, 2009, in Travel
The State Department travel alert issued 2/20 advising U.S. citizens living in Mexico or considering travel to Mexico of increased levels of violence has been getting considerable press coverage, some of it rather unfair.
Prospective travelers should read the actual advisory (linked here) before making a final decision.
As with travel within the United States, those who drink too much in Mexico make themselves more vulnerable to crime. At least stay on the grounds of your hotel if you over drink.
Update: April 26, 2009: Check Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for current swine flu situation in Mexico and elsewhere. http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/ In my opinion, this is most authoritative source.
